The “Teatro di San Carlo” concert will be held in Egypt for the first time on October 11, with the participation of Egyptian soprano Fatma Said, organized by the Italian embassy in Cairo at the foot of the pyramids.
The event will bring together renowned opera stars from across the world, including the San Carlo Theater Orchestra and Chorus with Italian soprano Maria Agresta, German opera singer Jonas Kaufmann, and Saeed, led by orchestra conductor Giacomo Sagripanti.
One hundred and twenty musicians and 70 opera choirs will take part in the concert – the largest number of artists ever to participate in an event at the foot of the pyramids.
The event includes a unique evening of operatic masterpieces composed by influential composers such as Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.
The concert will be sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the General Authority for Tourism Promotion, the Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture, and the Italian embassy in Cairo.
The event offers 2,500 tickets in three categories.
Theater of history
The world’s oldest opera house, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples dates back nearly three centuries.
It was initially known as the Royal Theater of Saint Charles, and was established on the commission of the ruler of Naples, Carlos III, King of Spain, who ruled Naples under the name of Charles VII, and desired a new and larger theater to replace the old and dilapidated Theater of San Bartolomeo. Teatro di San Carlo was opened on November 4, 1737.
The Naples Opera School achieved great success throughout Europe. Naples became the capital of European music, and many foreign composers sought to perform their compositions on the San Carlo Theater.
