Fandira–A speciality seafood menu in more than one way

“Freshelicious Seafood Delivery” is the name of the little tri-fold white menu. Only Fandira can pull it off.

Although they have yet to officially open the restaurant at their road 4 premises, the establishment is already inundated with delivery calls. And in perfect time for winter–Egypt’s fish season (at least by the old wives tale).

Fandira serves the regular selection–from sea bass, red mullet and Nile perch to shrimp, crab, clams and calamari by the kilo. But Fandira has exerted particular effort in giving seafood lovers a more sophisticated repertoire of main course options.

Under their ‘speciality meals’ section, one will find spruced up sea bass in lemon butter but also scallops wrapped in beef bacon and soya glazed tuna steak with orange. Mixed seafood in Thai red curry is particular favorite for those who profess their Fandira love on the restaurant’s facebook wall. Another popular item is Fandira’s piece de resistance: sea bass baked in a salt crust while soft and perfectly salted.

Fandira’s appetizer menu is limited to either potato wedges or a dish of fried calamari or shrimp–served with your choice of two sauces. The mixed dish is pretty yummy with the fried calamari an obvious highlight.

The sauces are an interesting addition. At traditional seafood restaurants in Egypt, you are usually limited to tahina and lemon for calamari or fried shrimp. Fandira tosses in a multicultural list of sauce possibilities–lemon butter, tartar and shrimp cocktail for only LE2 per generous serving.

Fandira’s speciality seafood fare is priced on par with other seafood throughout Cairo. A shared appetizer and two specialty meals will set you back a little over LE200.

The per kilo prices are around the market prices but your added incentive lies in the multitude of ‘style of cooking’ choices–among them the regular local singary and grilled but also roasted, salmoriglio marinade and olive oil with mixed herbs.

Keep in mind, Fandira’s salads do not just join the seafood order–customary in many seafood restaurants in Egypt. You will have to order each one separately.

Fandira delivers on time. The food is well packaged for as little mess as possible and the delivery man has change.

Fandira delivers from 12 noon till 12 midnight and you can reach them at 010-727-2513.
