Family drowns in Ibrahimiya water canal

Assyut Governorate witnessed a tragic incident as a husband, wife, and their son drowned in the Ibrahimiya Canal at Al-Tikeya village, in Manfalut.

Investigations and eyewitness accounts showed that Mohamed fell in the water while playing on the edge of the canal. His parent jumped into the water to rescue him but the three of them drowned.

Tikeya village residents reported the incident to the police.

River Nile rescuers and an ambulance, as well as police officers, moved to the scene of the incident. According to investigations, a family of three members drowned in the Ibrahimiya water canal, including the father, Eid M., a 45-year-old farmer, his wife Fatema E., a 30-year-old housewife, and their 12-year-old son, Mohamed.

Another passerby, Mohamed Ali Saeed, 55, fell into a coma after attempting to rescue them. Saeed successfully managed to retrieve the wife’s body, before suffering a coma. He was transferred to Manfalut Central Hospital’s intensive care unit.
