A Muslim family in Minya’s Sharouna village ended a dispute with a Coptic family in honor of the deceased Coptic leader Pope Shenouda III. The long struggle between the two families has resulted in 11 deaths.
According to the privately owned Al-Shorouk newspaper, Major General Serag Eddin al-Rouby, governor of Minya, said the two families agreed to end the conflict upon hearing news of the pope’s death.
Sheikh Seweify Shehata, an imam who intervened to reconcile the two families, said that ending the dispute is a gift to the deceased pope and the Coptic community from Muslims in Minya.
Rouby said flags on governmental institutions will be lowered to half-mast for three days in mourning for Shenouda. He added that he will attend the Pope’s funeral in Cairo on behalf of Minya residents.
