A 2nd metro line linking the districts of Munib and Shubra el-Kheima will be updated with state of the art equipment for periodic maintenance, said Egypt’s Minister of Transportation, Alaa Fahmi.
Fahmi noted that currently the Egyptian Company for Metro (ECM) conducts 24-hour maintenance on the 35 trains working on the second line at its workshops in Shubra el-Kheima. The process costs LE18 million, according to the minister.
ECM’s director, Mohamed Shimi, said that the workshops are prepared with the newest maintenance tools and employ 500 people. The technicians check approximately eight trains a day, Shimi said, with each check lasting for a minimum of two hours.
