Expatriate voting problems cannot be resolved before elections

The voting process for Egyptian expatriates faces difficulties that cannot be resolved before the parliamentary elections, Egypt's communications minister said Tuesday.

"No one has the right to discuss the elections except the High Elections Committee," said Communications Minister Mohamed Salem in a press conference.

Salem said there are technical and administrative difficulties with expatriate voting.

"There are problems in the database and registration process preceding the vote, as well as legal problems," he said.

Last week, presidential hopeful Mohamed ElBaradei insisted on the need to preserve the right to vote for Egypt's eight million expatriates.
