Former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and ex-Environment Minister Maged George have returned funds of up to LE71,000 to the Egyptian state, in the wake of a scandal surrounding illegal gifts received under the former regime.
Nazif and George both received illegal gifts from the Information Ministry under former President Hosni Mubarak.
Nazif paid back LE58,000 while George returned LE13,000.
The move came after public prosecutors approved an official request submitted by both defendants agreeing to reimbursement.
Investigations have also revealed that former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi illegally handed former officials, including Mubarak and his close family, donations valued at around LE6.5 million.
Fiqqi was detained pending investigation over charges of embezzlement, profiteering and willful damage of public money.
