Ex-minister Ouda remanded for 15 days pending investigations

Giza prosecutors have remanded former Supply Minister Bassem Ouda for 15 days pending investigations into outbreaks of violence outside al-Istiqama mosque in the wake of Mohamed Morsy's overthrow in July.

Ouda was deported under high security to Tora Prison after his arrest earlier on Tuesday. Authorities announced he was found inside an unlicensed soap factory in Wadi al-Natrun, Beheira.

Major General Sayyed Shafiq, deputy interior minister for public security, said: "Troops from public security, national security and Beheira security departments headed on Tuesday to one of the factories after being informed that the former minister was hiding there.”

Shafiq told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Ouda did not resist during the arrest. He added that his arrest was based on public prosecutors' verdict on violence in Giza and Bein al-Sarayat.
