Former Housing Minister Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman has presented new documents to the Public Funds Prosecution which he claims prove that he did not illegally allocate land to businessman Hisham Talaat Mustafa for the Madinaty real-estate project in New Cairo or to any other investor.
Sources said that the papers presented by Suleiman were signed by the pervious two housing ministers, proving that these ministers allocated land to businessmen in the same manner as Suleiman. The sources added that former minister Hassaballah el-Kafrawi allocated 100,000 square meters in 1991 to the Bin Laden Group in Marina (a tourist village on the Mediterranean coast), in addition to six 10,000 square meter plots to a number of businessmen.
Gamil Saeed, Suleiman’s attorney, affirmed that the documents do not incriminate previous ministers, but rather serve as evidence that his client followed the same land allocation procedures as his predecessors.
Last Thursday, the Public Funds Prosection heard the testimony of Safwat Mohamed Ghanem, vice president of the Urban Communities Authority, about the authority’s investigation into land allocation for the Madinaty project.
