Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council for Armed Forces, has met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton and her accompanying delegation who are visiting Egypt.
During the meeting Tantawi and Ashton discussed recent developments in Egypt and to support the Egyptian economy as the political and economic situation gradually improves.
On her second visit since the 25 January uprising, Ashton talked of EU readiness to cooperate with international partners to support Egypt democratically and economically.
Ashton also met with caretaker Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, and Head of the National Association for Change Mohamed ElBaradei. The EU high representative indicated that she foresees a significant chance for democracy and fair elections in Egypt.
