Head of the European Union delegation to Egypt, Marc Franco, on Sunday said European embassies in Egypt will follow up on upcoming parliamentary elections through the mass media and civil society.
“There’s communication between European Union and Egyptian government to follow on elections through supporting civil society organizations, including the Human Rights National Council (HRNC), to increase awareness as to the importance of elections and participation,” Franco said.
“300,000 Euros are allocated to these organizations to increase citizens’ awareness with elections as well as training observers and analyzing what’s broadcast in media,” Franco told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The diplomat said he will lead an EU delegation on Monday to meet with the council's chief Moqbel Shaker and several other HRNC member to investigate the intricacies of the election process and the council's role in poll monitoring.
