The Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF) has announced the participation of five million workers in Friday's protests called for by Defense Minister abdel Fattah al-Sisi to authorize the armed forces to fight terrorism.
The union, which has five million members, said all of its trade unions, syndicate committees, and local unions across all governorates will take part in the demonstrations.
In a statement issued after Sisi’s speech, the union said that their participation in the protests will help reinforce the roadmap and achieve a better future for the people.
ETUF head Gebali al-Maraghy told Al-Masry Al-Youm that workers in Cairo will gather in front of the union headquarters on Ramsis Street after Friday prayers, then head to Tahrir Square. Workers in other governorates will gather in front of local union headquarters and head to nearby squares.
He said that calls concerning their participation have not stopped since Sisi's speech ended.
