Ettehadiya marchers referred to court

Prosecutors referred 24 protesters to a misdemeanor court for marching to the Ettehadiya presidential palace last Saturday to defy the protest law.

The defendants include seven girls and the trial is set to begin on 29 June.

One protester was released on an LE2,000 bail due to his health condition.

The defendants are charged with breaching the protest law, damaging public and private property, possessing weapons and explosives, resisting the authorities and assaulting security forces.

The Al-Horreya Lel Gedaan (Freedom for the Brave) Facebook page said that the protesters staged a peaceful protest to call for amendments to the protest law.
