Eritrea volcano cancels Egypt’s Africa-bound flights

Egyptian authorities on Tuesday canceled all flights to Africa following the eruption of a volcano in Eritrea.

Geological reports have said the volcano, located 350 kilometers to the north of Asmara, erupted at midnight on Sunday following a series of earthhquakes that rocked the region.

The volcano has emitted volcanic ash that has so far extended 13.5 kilometers across the sky. The last time the Dubbi volcano erupted was in 1861.

An official source from Cairo International Airport said the volcanic cloud reached Abu Simbel tourist area Tuesday morning. The ash cloud, he added, is expected to reach Luxor, Aswan and Hurghada by Tuesday afternoon.
