Erdogan’s visit to Egypt will address Palestinian issue: Ambassador

Turkey’s ambassador to Egypt, Salih Mutlu Şen announced that the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Egypt is on the agenda and will discuss topics such as the Palestinian crisis.

Erdogan previously said that he intends to visit Egypt as soon as possible, at a time when the once frigid relations between the two has seen noticeable improvement.

Turkey’s ambassador to Egypt stressed that this historic visit will address all aspects of bilateral relations, and provides the possibility of consultation on the Palestinian issue towards which both countries share the same position.

This came during Şen’s speech on Thursday evening for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic, at his residence, with the participation of many ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir, and a number of celebrities.

Rebuilding Gaza

He stressed the importance of stopping the war in Gaza – which has resulted in the death and injury of tens of thousands of civilians – and ensuring peace and tranquility, adding that Egypt and Turkey share opinions on this issue.

Turkey was one of the first countries to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, Şen explained, made possible through the facilities and solidarity shown by Cairo and Ankara with Turkish relief organizations, expressing his thanks to the Egyptian authorities for their support and assistance.

He added that in the medium and long term, Turkey will continue to work in close cooperation with Egypt to rebuild Gaza.

Relations with Turkey stronger than ever

Şen noted that Ankara has achieved many gains in industry, trade, culture, art and other fields, and that it has taken its place amongst the most advanced economies of the world.

He said that relations with the Middle East and Arab and Islamic countries have also witnessed great development thanks in part to the independent nationalist policy followed by Erdogan in the past 20 years.

The ambassador explained that Egyptian-Turkish relations witnessed major transformations during the past year, and that following the normalization of relations both nations have begun to develop deeper cooperation in all fields.

He stated that this radical progress in relations comes through the joint will of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and is also consistent with public opinion in both countries.
