Environment Ministry launches campaign in Red Sea in celebration of Earth Day

Hundreds of tourists, as well as Egyptians divers and people interested in the maritime environment, will take part in a campaign on Wednesday to clean up highly-sensitive ecosystems on islands off of Hurghada, such as Abu Menqar island, where mangroves grow.

The campaign, organized by the Red Sea protectorates sector (affiliated with the Environment Ministry) and in collaboration with diving centers, is occurring on Earth Day, celebrated worldwide on April 22.

The day has been celebrated since 1970 in more than 192 countries, where events are held to support environmental protection.
