Engineers protest syndicate corruption

More than 150 engineers staged a protest Thursday in which they called on Irrigation Minister Nasr Allam to address the corrupt practices and financial excesses allegedly committed by the officials that have managed the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate ever since it was put under judicial sequestration 15 years ago.

Protesters also called for holding fresh syndicate board elections in light of a recent court decision overturning the longstanding sequestration order.

Protesting engineers further demanded that salaries and pensions for syndicate members be raised, warning of more demonstrations in the event that their demands were not met.
