Endowments Minister: Mosques are to serve the call to Islam, steer clear of politics

Newly appointed Endowments Minister Mohamed Gomaa said his priority is to have mosques once again perform their religious role and not engage in politics.

Mosques should become places of worship for all, regardless of political affiliation, he said.

Gomaa also intends to call for genuine national reconciliation that brings together all the ministry’s employees and those involved in Islamic preaching. No one shall be excluded based on their political views, he said. Efficiency and merit shall be the standard to get ahead.

The minister decided to form three committees to examine complaints and the conditions of workers who have suffered in recent times. All complaints will be closely monitored to reach the right decision according to the law, he said.

Gomaa said that priority will be given to ministry employees with regards to work in the field of the call to Islam. The ministry shall treat everyone with respect and take into account achieving social justice and safeguarding human dignity and human rights.
