The Emirati foreign minister will arrive in Cairo on Wednesday for his first visit since former President Hosni Mubarak's resignation. At the meeting, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Orabi and his counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, will discuss the latest developments in the region, investments and cooperation between the two countries.
In statements on Tuesday, Orabi said that Gulf countries are keen on increasing their investments in Egypt.
Bin Zayed was the last Arab official to meet Mubarak before the former president stepped down in February. News reports at the time claimed that the minister's visit was a gesture of Emirati support and that bin Zayed offered to host Mubarak if he stepped down.
Relations between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates tensed slightly following the breakout of the 25 January revolution when news circulated that the UAE was opposed to the trial of Mubarak and after Egypt began to seek closer ties to Iran.
