The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned against bad weather from Saturday to Monday, pointing to strong winds that lead to turbulence in the Mediterranean Sea.
The EMA explained that northwest winds will be active on the shores of the Mediterranean (Matruh, Dabaa, Alamein, Alexandria, Baltim, and Damietta), which disturbs maritime navigation with wave height ranges from two to three meters.
It appealed to beach-goers to exercise caution, in order to prevent drowning accidents.
Weather maps revealed that the temperatures will continue to rise over the next week.
Cairo will reach 37C during the day, while Alexandria reaches 33C.
The governorates of northern Upper Egypt (Assiut, Minya, Sohag, and Fayoum) will hit 40C while Upper Egypt (Qena, Aswan, Salloum and Luxor) will reach 44C during daylight hours.
Meteorologists attributed the hot weather to the extension of the seasonal India monsoon, whose impact is at the greatest in months of June and July, and causes temperatures to rise in all parts of the country.
The EMA advised citizens to face the extremely hot weather by drinking plenty of cold fluids, wearing cotton and loose clothes, having a head covering on during peak hours of temperatures, and being in well-ventilated places.
Saturday weather:
Active winds will hit areas of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, South Sinai and the south of the country, at intermittent intervals.
Mists will form in the morning on some roads leading to and from Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the northern coasts, the Suez Canal cities, and central Sinai.
Meteorologists advised motorists to exercise caution when driving and adhere to the specified speeds, due to low morning visibility, in order to ensure the safety of pedestrians and passengers.
