EMA warns against Egypt’s autumn weather, calls for precautionary measures

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has warned of the autumn season weather beginning September 23, as severe floods and weather events are anticipated.

In a statement on Sunday, the head of the Meteorological Authority Ahmed Abdel-Aal called on officials and governors to take the necessary measures to protect citizens.

Abdel-Aal said that though autumn is one of Egypt’s most beautiful seasons, it may sometimes be punctuated by weather instability if there are atmospheric pressure distributions. He explained that this may lead to violent weather events, especially the increase of rain and thunder clouds, usually accompanied by heavy rainfall at the northern coasts of the country, especially Alexandria.

The rains may sometimes cause flooding on Upper Egypt’s governorates and the Red Sea mountains and Sinai due to their geographical nature, he added.

Abdel-Aal appealed to the governors and officials of these governorates to take all necessary measures and preparations, with the aim of securing the safety of citizens and facilities, maintain the road network, secure the movement of tourists and the regularity of traffic within all governorates.

The statement added that the EMA will issue warnings and send them to the concerned governorates on bad weather especially floods at least 72 hours before they occur.
