Eleven people were arrested in Beheira on Wednesday on charges of attempting to illegally immigrate to Italy by boating across the Mediterranean.
Major General Mamdouh Hassan, Beheira security chief, stated that the suspects were arrested in Rashid Port after disembarking from their boat.
The 11 individuals claimed that they had paid three people from Daqahlia, Sharqiya and Beheira to help them to cross the border.
After the police report was filed, the prosecution released the immigrants pending investigation, and stated that the criminal interrogation department will go after the smugglers.
