Alexandria Governor Hani al-Meseiri has signed a contract on Saturday with the Chinese Dongfang Electric Corporation for the electrification of the Alexandria-Abu Qir railway line at a cost of $700 million to start in January.
The project, which is funded by a Chinese bank, is for a line of 22 kilometers that serves 18 million passengers a year. It is projected to be completed within three years.
