Electricity Ministry suspends Ramadan power cuts

The Electricity Ministry has decided to stop temporarily cutting power in certain areas of the country.

The practice, which had been applied in an effort to lighten the load on the national electricity grid, was reportedly suspended since temperatures are expected to remain stable throughout the month of Ramadan.

In recent days, citizens have complained of frequent power outages, especially in the cities of Menoufyia and Ismailia.

“We won't cut the power,” promised Mohamed Awad, president of the state-run Electricity Holding Company. “But there may be some routine breakdowns.”

Meanwhile, the ministry is going after shop owners found placing ornamental lighting in front of their shops, recently confiscating more than 6000 light bulbs used for the purpose.
