Electricity min., Masdar company probe promoting coop. in clean energy

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat has discussed with Chief Executive Officer of the UAE company Masdar Mohamed Jameel al Ramahi ways of promoting cooperation, within the framework of the energy strategy and ministry’s plan to diversify energy sources, expand renewable energy projects and reduce reliance on fossil fuel.

The talks took place on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the 15th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Electricity on Tuesday.

The meeting discussed progress achieved in implementation of solar and wind power generation projects carried out by Masdar company as well as ways to accelerate their connection to the national grid, the statement read.

The meeting tackled the implementation rate of the recently-signed agreements on projects of generating power using solar energy with a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts, along with the battery storage project with a capacity of 720 megawatt/hour.

After the meeting, Esmat visited Al Dhafrah Solar Power Project, with a power generation capacity of 2,100 megawatts, where he was briefed officials of the plant on the technologies used in the operational process, total energy generated and contributions of the project to reducing carbon emissions.

The 15th Assembly of IRENA took place between January 11-13 in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, under the theme of “Accelerating the Renewable Energy Transition – The Way Forward” (Energy security, Socio-economic development and Financing options).

The IRENA Assembly kicked off the ADSW), which runs till 18.
