Elections update: HRW representative detained in Delta town

The deputy director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East and North Africa division, Joe Stork, was briefly detained on Sunday in the Nile Delta city of Samanoud, security sources said.

Stork and his translator, Amr Khairy, were detained for less than 30 minutes by policemen while visiting Samanoud Hospital in the Gharbiya Governorate, said the source on condition of anonymity.

"They were arrested because they didn’t have valid permits to monitor the electoral process," he said, adding that both men were released shortly thereafter.

In other news, Muslim Brotherhood sources said that six of its campaigners were injured today following clashes with security forces in Samanoud.
