ElBaradei: I will appear on Egyptian TV

Potential presidential candidate Mohamed ElBaradei said on Wednesday that state television has rescinded its decision to prevent him from appearing on one of its shows after his supporters threatened to stage a protest in front of the state television building.

ElBaradei had yesterday said television authorities were prevening him from appearing on a talk show hosted by Amr Khaled, an Islamic preacher who enjoys immense popularity in the Arab world.

In a message on his Twitter account, ElBaradei said on Wednesday, "I will appear tomorrow on TV with Amr Khaled."

"I’m grateful to the youth who sent a strong message to Egyptian Television, which is financed by the people, that a revolution has taken place and freedom of expression is guaranteed for everyone."

The regime of toppled President Hosni Mubarak has been accused of banning ElBaradei from state-run TV and launching a smear campaign against him.

ElBaradei supporters created a Facebook event calling for a protest against the ban, with roughly 3000 users saying they would participate.
