Eight people were killed and 18 injured late Monday when a microbus collided with a car on the Qena-Safaga road south of Cairo.
Among those killed was an eight-year-old girl.
An Interior Ministry source said the accident happened when the car’s back tire exploded, separated from the car and struck the microbus.
Egypt has one of the worst rates of traffic accidents in the world. According to a government report issued in May, an average of 18 people a day were killed in 2009 due to automobile collisions.
