The American University in Cairo announced that eight of its professors have been included on the list of the US Stanford University, for the top two percent of scientists in the world.
The list was compiled by experts from Stanford University, through the Scopus database, which includes abstracts and references from articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and from various books and publications.
The list includes the top 2 percent of scientists whose research is cited in 22 scientific disciplines and 176 sub-disciplines.
The evaluation of this list is based on scholarly citations to researchers, Hirsch’s Index (H-Index) which is a criterion for measuring scientist productivity, the modified Hirsch index of co-authorship (Hm-index), and citations from papers published in various authorship sites.
The list from the American University in Cairo included distinguished professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry Hassan Azazy, and Professor in the Department of Chemistry Mohamed Farag.
Professors from the university’s engineering departments included Professor and Director of the Graduate Studies Program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Tamer al-Bat, Professor and Head of the Structural Engineering Department Ezz Edin Yazid, Professor of Electronics and Communications Engineering and Director of the Electronics and Nanotechnology Center at the American University in Cairo and Zewail City Yehia Ismail, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Amal Essawy, and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Graduate Program in Robotics, Intelligent Systems and Control Maki Habib.
The list also included Professor in the Department of Physics and Director of the Graduate Program for Nanotechnology at the university Nageh Allam.
Including AUC faculty members for the second year in a row in the Stanford University scholars list is an explicit acknowledgment of the continuing quality of research conducted by AUC faculty fellow and its impact on the scientific field, said Chief Academic Officer Adham Ramadan.
This acknowledgment supports the research activities at AUC that may take place at the national, regional, and global levels, he added.
