The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced the labor force statistics for the fourth quarter (October-December) of 2021, where the unemployment rate reached 7.4 percent of the total labor force, compared to 7.5 percent in the third quarter of 2021 – a decrease of 0.1 percent from the previous quarter.
The total estimate of unemployed persons reached 2,200 million people, or 7.4 percent of the total labor force, compared to 2,211 million in the third quarter of 2021, a decrease of 11,000 unemployed or 0.5 percent, and an increase of 34,000 unemployed people, or 1.6 percent, compared to the same quarter of 2020.
The unemployment rate among males reached 5.2 percent of the total male labor force in Q4 compared to 5.9 percent in the previous quarter, and compared to 5.1 percent in the same quarter of 2020.
The unemployment rate among females reached 17.8 percent of the total female labor force in Q4, compared to 15.3 percent in Q3, and 16.8 percent in the same quarter of the previous year.
The urban unemployment rate reached 11 percent of the total urban labor force, while the rural unemployment rate reached 4.5 percent of the total rural labor force.
The percentage of unemployed holders of intermediate, above-intermediate, university and above-university qualifications reached 82.6 percent of the total unemployed force in Q4, compared to 80.3 percent in Q3.
According to CAPMAS, 72.8 percent of the employees are paid in cash during the fourth quarter of 2021.
The estimated wage earners amounted to 19.997 million employees (17,007 million males and 2,990 million females) at a rate of 72.8 percent of total employees.
Self-employed business owners who employed others reached 1.070 million (1,006 million males compared to 64,000 females), at a rate of 3.9 percent of the total employment force.
Self-employed workers who do not employ anyone totaled 5.127 million (4,710 million males compared to 417,000 females), at a rate of 18.7 percent of the total employees.
The number of unpaid workers contributing to family project work was 1.259 million (483,000 males, and 776,000 females), at a rate of 4.6 percent of the total employees.
