Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali alongside the Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction on Tuesday celebrated graduations for the second intake receiving Cairo University’s professional diploma in drug control and addiction treatment.
The diploma is the first specialized university diploma in addiction treatment and reducing drug demand in the Middle East, and is accredited by the Supreme Council of Universities.
Wali also opened the first permanent headquarter for volunteers at the Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction, saying that these volunteers will work in youth awareness and prevention.
She added that she was keen on sharing Egypt’s vision for drug control and addiction treatment, during meetings with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the headquarter director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime during the 60th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs
According to Wali, students study the one-year diploma on two semesters by the credit hours system, with each semester containing five courses, three of which are compulsory and two elective, in addition to a research project for each student at the end of the second semester.
