Egypt’s Sisi and Serbian Parliament Speaker discuss strengthening relations

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday received the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ivica Dacic, in the presence of Egyptian Parliament Speaker Hanafi al-Jabali.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady said that Sisi expressed his appreciation for the strong relations between Egypt and Serbia which have spanned over more than a century.

Egypt also desires to strengthen bilateral cooperation in light of the major development projects it is implementing and the huge investment and industrial opportunities it provides, Sisi added.

The Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly expressed his country’s pride in its extended relations with Egypt, praising the pivotal role it plays in consolidating peace and stability in the Middle East, Africa and the Mediterranean region.

Dacic also praised the positive economic developments in Egypt witnessed under the leadership of President Sisi, stressing Serbia’s keenness to develop bilateral relations in all fields and activate joint cooperation between the two countries, especially through the parliament.

Rady said that the meeting touched on ways to enhance bilateral relations, especially in the fields of health, energy and tourism, as well as cooperation in the military field, combating terrorism, extremist ideology and illegal immigration.

The meeting also dealt with the latest regional and international developments of common interest, especially the Palestinian issue, as well as ways to consolidate stability in the region and coordinating positions in international forums due to Serbia’s balanced stance towards supporting Arab causes.
