Egypt’s schools to admit its citizens studying in Yemen

The Education Authority on Saturday decided to admit Egyptian students returning from Yemen to Egypt’s universities and schools.

Salwa al-Gharieb, secretary of Supreme Council of Universities (SCU), said the council had been awaiting a Foreign Ministry report on Egyptian students in Yemeni educational institutions before making its decision.

In a statement, al-Ghareib said the report showed that the students would be in danger if they remained in Yemen.

Universities are ready to receive students once they apply and submit the required documents, al-Ghareib added.

Mass protests calling on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down have remained ongoing across Yemen for most of this year. Saleh has been in office for 32 years.

More than 116 protesters have been killed so far during the demonstrations, and the country’s security forces have used live ammunition and tear gas against protesters. Many fear that the violence will only grow worse, as more than half of Yemen's population of 23 million possess arms.
