Egypt’s ruling party says it understands demonstrators’ demands

Egypt’s ruling National Democratic Party on Wednesday said it understands the demands of the citizens who took to the streets on the "Day of Anger" on Tuesday and who were brutally confronted by security forces, killing three and wounding dozens.

In a statement issued by its executive committee, the party said it had closely followed the events on Tuesday, and confirmed its respect for the constitutional right of citizens to express their views, considering it part of the democratic process that the party believes in.

The statement also said that the party understands the demands of the youth, and that it will continue to work on resolving their problems.

But the party rejected violence and vandalism. It also denounced incitement by the banned Muslim Brotherhood group and what it labeled as unpopular political parties that exploit young people to achieve disorganized agendas.

The statement also said the party, armed with its “new thought” motto, will continue dialogue with all of Egypt’s youth, irrespective of their diverse ideas and trends, in order to achieve a better future for them and for the nation.
