Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision on Thursday to limit the price of products necessary for preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
He also demanded that all shops and pharmacies advertise the prices and make them visible to customers.
The price of face masks will be set at LE2. The price of gloves, meanwhile will be set at LE80.
Hand sanitizer will range in price depending on the volume purchased, with a 30 ml bottle selling for LE10 and a liter selling for LE100.
The decision also prohibits shops and pharmacies from hiding products or refusing to sell them.
Those violating the law will be fined between LE100,000 and two million pounds, or the value of the products. They can also be imprisoned for a period of two to five years.
