Egypt’s population predicted to reach 101 million in October: CAPMAS

Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Saturday said that it expects Egypt’s population to increase to about 101 million people on October 17.

The agency added that the country’s population reached 100 million on February 11, 2020, an increase of 5.2 million from the previous census. The gender ratio was 106.2 males for every 100 females.

The agency said in a report issued on the occasion of World Population Day that Cairo is the largest governorate of the republic in terms of population, with a population of 9.9 million, followed by Giza at 9.1 million.

He pointed out that Egyptian society is considered quite young, since 34.1 percent of the population is under 15, while only 4.1 percent are over 65, according to estimates made at the beginning of 2020.

The agency said that the urban population in 2020 is 42.8 percent, compared to about 57.2 percent in rural areas.
