New Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik said that authorities will investigate the recent clashes between pro-Mubarak and anti-Mubarak protestors in the area of Tahrir Square.
According to the Ministry of Health, five people were killed and 800 were injured during clashes, as protesters repelled repeated attacks by pro-Mubarak protestors that aimed at dislodging them from the square.
Protesters were attacked by Molotov cocktails and rocks from on top colonial era buildings as gunshots were heard in the surrounding area throughout the night.
Protestors claimed that police in civilian clothes took part in pro-Mubarak protests, as proven by ID cards carried by those captured, they reported on the social network Twitter.
The information remains unverified amid Ministry of Interior denials.
Likewise, protests took place in Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia governorates.
Vice President Omar Suleiman called on protestors to return to their homes in order to ensure a restoration of the state’s stability.
Anti-Mubarak protestors said that they are preparing for more protests today, and that they are preparing a massive protest scheduled for Friday.
On Thursday, Egypt’s demonstrations entered their tenth consecutive day.
