The Egyptian prime minister traveled to Riyadh with a ministerial delegation for a four-day visit to Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
Sharaf is scheduled to discuss methods of boosting relations between Egypt and Gulf countries. He will also focus on attracting Gulfi investments and tourism for Egypt.
Talks may include other issues such as security in the Gulf, Egyptian-Iranian rapprochement, and the trial of toppled Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
Sharaf told the Saudi Okaz newspaper on Sunday that Mubarak’s trial “will be determined by the law.”
Sharaf also declared that “Maintaining stability in the Gulf is a national commitment and essential for the whole region's stability.” He noted that “Egypt has always supported the people of the Gulf for progress and in many crises. There is an Egyptian appreciation for the Gulf's role.”
Sharaf will also meet with the Saudi tycoon Al-Waleed bin Talal, head of the Kingdom Agricultural Development Company, to finalize the latter’s preliminary agreement with the Egyptian government on disputed lands in Toshka project near Aswan.
