Egypt’s parliament debates the return of power cuts

The Deputy Chairman of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, MP Wafiq Azzat, commented on the ongoing debate regarding the return of the load shedding (power cuts) plan with the end of summer and the beginning of the new school year, in the absence of any decision or statements from the Cabinet on the matter.

Azzat said in a phone call to the ‘Hazrat Al-Mwatin’ program on the ‘Al Hadath Al Youm’ channel on Monday that the Cabinet has not presented any plan to the House of Representatives to reduce the load again.

He explained that the House of Representatives hopes that the load shedding plan will not return, adding: “I see that things have improved, and I hope that the government will not resort to load shedding again, especially with the beginning of the school year.”

“I hope that the government will resort to other methods such as rationalizing consumption in government agencies and raising public awareness about rationalizing consumption.”

The Deputy Chairman of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives continued: “The government has promised to solve the problem of load shedding. I think the government will not resort to it again, and this is what we all hope for.”

It was expected that the government would return to implementing the load shedding plan again starting from September 16, but no decision has been issued yet in this regard.
