The Egyptian Olympic Committee issued an official statement on Sunday after investigating the exclusion of Egyptian boxer Youmna Ayyad from the 2024 Olympic Games held in Paris.
Ayyad was unable to compete in her match against Uzbek Nigina Uktamova in the round of 32 in the 54 kg weight category, due to exceeding the required weight.
The Egyptian Olympic Committee said that it discussed the boxer’s medical report.
It explained that “Ayyad suffered from weight gain upon her arrival in Paris due to the circumstances and conditions of the travel and flight day, then she was able to achieve the weight after following a special program in the days before the competition and after her arrival.”
The committee added in a statement that: “Then she (Ayyad) was surprised by physiological and hormonal changes, and we refrain from mentioning the details according to our Egyptian customs and traditions and to protect the player’s rights.”
It stressed that the detailed report from the medical committee confirms that no responsibility is directed at the player and the technical and administrative staff.
