Egypt’s Mufti and President of the Supreme Council of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide Shawqi Allam said that Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah (emigration) was a “divine guidance” to build a new society based on solidarity, brotherhood and coexistence.
In exclusive statements to MENA on Wednesday on the occasion of the new Hijri year 1445, the mufti said that the Prophet’s Hijrah was not just a movement of the Prophet and his followers from one place to another, but rather it is a “turning point” in the history of the Islamic nation and the whole world.
The Prophet’s Hijrah is tantamount to a transition to create a new society enjoying the exercise of its religious freedom, establish religious brotherhood ties among believers and advocate the principle of peaceful coexistence among them, he further stressed.”Hijrah” is used chiefly to refer to the emigration of the Prophet and his followers from Mecca to Madina in 622 C.E.
Hijrah was a deliberate choice of the Prophet under “divine guidance” to leave the land of persecution seeking freedom, peace, and security.
