Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa called on Egyptians to vote in the presidential election and accept the result regardless of what it is.
The presidential election is set to begin on Wednesday and Thursday. The results of the first round will be announced on 29 May.
“Choosing a president who will lead the country and the people at this critical time is the responsibility of every eligible voter,” said Gomaa.
Gomaa stressed the necessity of respecting the people’s will and the election results.
He also called on the supporters of all candidates to respect others’ rights to differ on their representation. He also called for avoiding irrational conflict between voters.
Gomaa asked that all state authorities to do their best to keep the “democratic gala” peaceful.
