Egypt’s Ministry of Culture to consider holding events at Cairo Opera House

The Ministry of Culture is preparing a study on the possibility of holding events in the open spaces of the Cairo Opera House in order to resume cultural programming while still adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem stressed the need to produce artistic and cultural programs aimed at benefiting public taste and spreading awareness of community issues, while still maintaining precautionary measures necessary to ensure the safety of artists, employees and the general public.

Abdel Dayem recently held a meeting with President of the Opera House Magdy Saber, followed by another meeting with head of the Cultural Production Sector Khaled Galal, head of the Artistic House Ismail Mokhtar and others to review projects that will be implemented after the coronavirus crisis has passed and normal activities have been resumed.

Abdel Dayem encouraged new theater productions that deal with the stories of the armed forces, the police, and medical professionals and their efforts to combat coronavirus, stressing that theater is a form of sincere expression of the reality of society.

Abdel Dayem stressed as well the need to preserve the success achieved by the theater prior to the suspension of its programs.
