Egypt’s Interior Minister appoints new director of National Security

Interior Minister Mansour al-Essawy ordered the appointment of Major General Magdy Abdul Ghaffar on Tuesday as the new director of the National Security Agency, succeeding General Hamed Abdallah, who retired after reaching his pension age.

Essawy also announced that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has finalized plans for a major reshuffle of interior ministry leaders.
The reshuffle, which will be officially announced on Wednesday, is considered the largest in the ministry’s history, as it includes 19 security directors and 750 major and brigadier generals.

In March, Essawy dissolved the notorious State Security Investigation Service and replaced it with the National Security Agency, of which Abdallah was the first director.
