The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that a fourth wave of coronavirus will hit Egypt in late September or early October.
Informed sources with the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus at the ministry expect the “Delta Plus” variant to enter Egypt, stressing in statements to Al-Watan newspaper that the committee is working to update the treatment protocol for people infected with coronavirus during the coming period, to be in line with the variant.
The source added that no drugs have been removed from the treatment protocol, but immunostimulating drugs are being added.
The sources added that the Delta variant spreads faster than other variants and is particularly dangerous for children.
The sources said that vaccinations are key in confronting any expected wave or variant.
Finally, the sources mentioned that if 20 percent of those in Egypt are vaccinated, the death rates in the fourth wave will decrease by up to 88 percent, as the coronavirus vaccine reduces the severity of symptoms.
