Two stars of the Egyptian mission to the Olympic Games – Sara Samir, who won the bronze medal at Rio Games in weightlifting, and Ahmed al-Gendy, who won the silver medal at Tokyo Games in modern pentathlon – waved the Egyptian flag at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This year’s Olympic games will run from July 26 to August 11.
The Egyptian mission’s boat set sail on the River Seine, which saw the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday.
For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony was held outside a stadium, taking place on boats over the River Seine instead.
The parade featured 85 boats, over six kilometers long, on the river. More than 6,000 athletes, 3,000 dancers, and 300,000 spectators witnessed the event.
The Egyptian delegation participates with the largest number of players in its history in the Olympic Games, with 148 main players and 16 reserve players, for a total of 164 players in 22 sports.
This delegation is also the largest in Arab and African participation.
The delegation aims to make its country proud and achieve victory, owing to the Egyptian state’s efforts to provide support and assistance to all players in the event in order to raise Egypt’s global reputation.
More than 206 countries are participating in the Paris Olympics, represented by about 10,500 athletes, competing in 32 different games.
