Finance Minister Mohamed Maait announced Friday that the Customs Authority has released goods with a total value of more than eight billion dollars since March.
In a statement, Maait said that the ministry is working with all state agencies to “Confront any import practices that lead to the accumulation of goods at the ports, as any goods left by their owners at the ports beyond the prescribed legal periods are dealt with decisively.”
He added that although US dollar resources are available at banks, “some importers have refrained from releasing their shipments without legal justification.”
“Those importers who refrain from releasing their shipments without any legal reason or justification are being dealt with all seriousness,” he explained, according to the Arab World Press news agency.
