The authority on Thursday said that winds over the Mediterranean on Wednesday reached a speed of 45 knots, leading to a significant rise in the waves.
Thick clouds bringing heavy rains along the north coast are expected to diminish as they advance inland over Cairo and northern Upper Egypt.
The high in Cairo on Thursday is 16C, while the nighttime temperature could drop to 10C.
Temperatures are forecast to rise by 3 degrees Celsius starting Friday, but nighttime temperatures will stay in the single digits throughout the weekend.
