Egyptian Cabinet refutes online news claiming remdesivir drug available in pharmacies

The media center of the Egyptian Cabinet on Thursday refuted claims appearing on various web sites and social media that the antiviral coronavirus drug Remdesivir is available for sale in Egyptian pharmacies.

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) asserted that the drug is not available in pharmacies, and is only administered under medical supervision, to patients suffering from acute respiratory problems.

The EDA also requested that drug production increase, ensuring continuous production in order to meet the needs of university hospitals.

The authority is keen on following up and inspecting the production plans for vital and strategic drugs, as well as the strategic inventory of raw materials necessary for the drug production.
