Judicial sources on Thursday said Egypt’s attorney-general banned a former official of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) and three former ministers from travel in advance of referring them to investigation.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources said that those banned from travel included former NDP Organization Secretary Ahmed Ezz, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, former Housing Minister Ahmed al-Maghraby and former Minister of Tourism Zuhair Garrana.
They said al-Adly and three other security leaders were put under house arrest in Six October City.
There had been reports about the arrest of a number of other security leaders who are currently being held in a military prison, due to the chaotic security situation resulting from the withdrawal of police from all locations and the government's deployment of hired thugs and criminals.
The sources pointed out that investigations into the events that took place in the country over the past ten days has begun, starting with the last mobile phone and wireless contacts made by the former interior minister with provincial security leaders, who said they carried out orders given to them.
The military arrested 38 policemen and 22 citizens in different parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday and referred them to the military prosecution, which began questioning them about who ordered them to clash with demonstrators in Tahrir Square.
Some of the arrested policemen said they were ordered to engage in demonstrations to support Mubarak; others said they were expressing their love for the president on their own volition.
The arrested civilians said the NDP had paid them LE100 and LE200 to stage pro-Mubarak demonstrations.
